There are many reasons we love a green superfood smoothie but here are just a few
- It's super healthy and a great way to get your daily dose of fruit and veg
- It gives you way more energy to make it through the day
- It's full of antioxidants and immunity boosters to fight disease
- It is a healthy natural weight loss drink
- It is so quick and easy!!
What's in a green superfood smoothie?
I usually go 2 + 2 + 2 to keep it simple. This may change with the types of greens and fruit you are using. Experiment a little to suit you taste.
- 2 x cups of liquid
- 2 x cups of leafy greens
- 2 x cups or fruit
Start with the liquid base and add the leafy greens. I mostly just use water or coconut water but coconut milk or almond milk will also do the trick just fine. My leafy green are usually spinach, either english or baby. BLITZ. Use the bullet style blitzer to keep all of the fibre and pulp in the smoothie. You don't want to be throwing this away as thats there all the goodies are.
Add the fruit. Go crazy with what ever fruit you like. My staples are banana and berries. I like to always add some berries to get as many antioxidants as i can.
DONE - so simple it really is one of the quickest breakfasts you can make.
Ok so heres where you can go crazy and add some extra flavours.
- RawAlmonds blitzed up skin and all
- Moist coconut flakes
- Rice Malt Syrup or honey but just a bit
- Chia seeds
- Green superfood smoothie supplement
Blitz, don't juice.
So much more fruit is required to make one serving of fruit juice. For example 4 apple would be required to make one juice rather than 1 or 2 apples if they were being blended or blitzed.
When the fiber is removed from fruit through juicing, an increased amount of fruit sugar is consumed causing a spike in blood sugar. Unstable blood sugar levels can lead to mood swings, energy loss, memory problems and more!
Blitz or blend whole fruit and vegetables to maintain the fiber and nutrition. Fiber is essential for good digestion and colon health and it keeps your insides in good working order.
